How It Works
The Connection Club Event Experience
We believe people relax and connect more easily when they know what to expect.
Here’s how a Connection Club event unfolds, step by step.

Here’s what happens
once you arrive…
ARRIVAL & SETTLE-IN
When you arrive, you’ll check in, grab a drink, and enjoy some oysters or charcuterie as you settle into the space.
We intentionally begin with a gentle arrival window so you can arrive in your own rhythm — no rushing, no pressure to mingle immediately.
The host will be present early, offering a warm welcome and light orientation so you know you’re in the right place and don’t have to figure anything out on your own.
A NOTE OF GRATITUDE FOR OUR HOST
We’re grateful to be hosted by Humboldt Bay Provisions, and to Sebastien Elrite and the incredible staff for welcoming us into their space.
This evening is also an invitation to eat well, drink well, be merry, and tip generously. Supporting local businesses — and the people who make gatherings like this possible — is part of the culture we’re building together.
WELCOME & ORIENTATION
Once everyone has had time to arrive and settle, the host will officially welcome the group and walk you through how the evening will flow. You’ll hear:
what the night will look like
how the conversation rounds work
what to expect — and what not to worry about
We’ll also briefly review our Community Standards, which help create an experience that feels respectful, relaxed, and well-run.
We’ll normalize what many people are already feeling: it’s completely okay to be a little nervous. You don’t need to be “good at this.” You just need to show up.
MICRO-WORKSHOP: HOW TO CONNECT WELL
Before the conversation rounds begin, we offer a short, engaging micro-workshop.
This isn’t a lecture — it’s practical, immediately usable, and designed to help conversations flow more naturally.
We’ll cover things like:
how to ask better questions
how to prove to the other person that you’re actually listening
what actually helps conversations feel easy and engaging
The goal is simple: set everyone up for better, more interesting conversations.
GUIDED CONVERSATION ROUNDS
You’ll then move into guided conversation rounds, where you’ll be paired one-on-one with different people throughout the evening.
Each round lasts about five minutes — long enough to relax and connect, short enough to keep the energy moving.
You’ll be given:
clear instructions
thoughtful prompts (so you’re never stuck wondering what to say)
gentle time cues for when to switch
You don’t need to impress. You don’t need a perfect line. Just be present, curious, and yourself.
BREAK & RESET
Midway through the event, we’ll take a short break.
This is a chance to:
use the restroom
refresh your drink
take a breath
reset your energy
There’s no pressure to “work the room” during the break — do what feels supportive for you.
FINAL ROUNDS
After the break, we’ll return for a few final conversation rounds.
These are often some of the most relaxed and enjoyable conversations of the night, once people have found their rhythm and early nerves have faded.
MATCHING & FOLLOW-UP
At the end of the evening, we’ll share a QR code that links to a short, private form.
You’ll be able to indicate:
anyone you’d be open to connecting with again
optional feedback about your experience
There’s no pressure to decide anything on the spot.
After the event:
matches are shared only when interest is mutual
contact details are exchanged thoughtfully via a follow-up email
you’ll hear from us within the stated follow-up window
This process is designed to make meeting potential matches fun, without putting you on the spot — so you can follow up on your own.
OPTIONAL WIND-DOWN
Depending on the event, there may be a short, optional wind-down period at the end of the night.
You’re welcome to linger briefly, say goodbyes, or head out when you’re ready.
There’s no obligation to stay — the evening is complete either way.
